Square Casing
A squared outer shell for booster sets where the footprint is fixed.
The volute inside is the same spiral as any other casing — the difference is on the outside. Squaring the shell lets two or three pumps sit side by side on a skid without the wasted space a round body leaves between them.
Flat outer walls also give somewhere to cast the mounting bosses and the nameplate pad, so they do not have to be welded on afterwards. On a pressure-carrying part that matters: a welded boss is a heat-affected zone on the outside of the pressure boundary.
| Casting process | Vertical-line sand moulding on two lines (national patent) |
| Materials | Grey iron · ductile iron · WCB carbon steel · CF8M stainless |
| Machined features | Joint face and bolt circle · suction and discharge bores · mounting boss faces · register |
| Minimum order | 100 pieces |
| Certification | EN 10204 3.1 per heat, spectrometer results |
| Source of geometry | Your drawing, 3D file or a worn sample |
What Is Difficult About This One
Every casting has one or two features that decide whether the batch repeats. On this part they are these.
Flat walls want to bow
Large flat sections cool unevenly and pull. Internal ribs plus a gating layout that fills the corners last is what keeps the joint face flat enough to machine.
Every internal corner gets a radius
A sharp corner inside a casting this shape is where the crack starts after a few thousand pressure cycles. Radii go in at pattern stage, not with a grinder afterwards.
Volute core in a square box
The core print has less room than in a round body, so its location has to be held tighter — otherwise the wall thickness goes uneven around the spiral.
Alloy Options
The same geometry is a different part in three different plants. Chloride content, abrasion and temperature drive the choice — not the name of the fluid.
| Alloy | Grade | When it is the right choice |
|---|---|---|
| Grey iron | HT200 / HT250 | Default for water duty. Damps vibration, machines easily, lowest cost. |
| Ductile iron | QT450 / QT500 | When the duty is cyclic or the part takes shock. Tougher than grey. |
| WCB carbon steel | ASTM A216 WCB | Higher strength, weldable. For pressure-bearing bodies. |
| CF8M stainless | ASTM A743 CF8M | Chloride and corrosion duty — the cast equivalent of 316. |
What to Send Us
These are the ones specific to this part. A drawing, a 3D file or the worn original covers all of them at once.
| Item | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Footprint limit | The dimension that made you want a square body rather than a round one |
| Suction and discharge sizes | Thread or flange standard, and which side each sits on |
| Volute profile | A drawing or the worn casing — we reconstruct from either |
