Bearing Cover
Closes the housing: seal recess, spigot register, grease boss.
A small casting that does three jobs at once — it retains the bearing, it locates on the housing spigot, and it holds the shaft seal that keeps the oil in and the water out.
The seal recess is the tight one. It has to be concentric with the bearing seat inside the housing, not just with the cover's own spigot, which is why the two are checked together rather than to separate drawings.

What Is Difficult About This One
Every casting has one or two features that decide whether the batch repeats. On this part they are these.
Small part, three machined features
Recess, register and face all have to relate to one another. The casting is designed so they can be cut without turning the part over.
Grease boss cast in
Drilled after, but the boss is cast — there is not enough wall to drill into otherwise.
Even section round the bolt circle
Uneven section on a part this small pulls the face out of flat as it cools.
Alloy Options
The same geometry is a different part in three different plants. Chloride content, abrasion and temperature drive the choice — not the name of the fluid.
| Alloy | Grade | When it is the right choice |
|---|---|---|
| Grey iron | HT200 / HT250 | Default for water duty. Damps vibration, machines easily, lowest cost. |
| Ductile iron | QT450 / QT500 | When the duty is cyclic or the part takes shock. Tougher than grey. |
| WCB carbon steel | ASTM A216 WCB | Higher strength, weldable. For pressure-bearing bodies. |
| CF8M stainless | ASTM A743 CF8M | Chloride and corrosion duty — the cast equivalent of 316. |
What to Send Us
These are the ones specific to this part. A drawing, a 3D file or the worn original covers all of them at once.
| Item | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Shaft diameter and seal type | Lip seal, labyrinth or a cartridge — it changes the recess |
| Housing spigot | Diameter and depth of what it registers into |
| Grease or oil | Decides whether the boss is used at all |
