Side-Inlet Casing, Short Boss
The same side-inlet layout with a shorter inlet boss and a different foot pitch. It is a separate pattern, not the same casting machined differently.
The distinction is worth stating plainly, because buyers often assume a shorter boss is just the long one cut back. It is not. The boss length, the foot pitch and the barrel height all change together, and cutting a long boss down would leave the thread in the wrong place relative to the chamber.
At 136 × 97 × 235 mm and about 3.4 kg it is the taller of the two side-inlet bodies despite the shorter boss — the extra height is in the barrel, not the inlet.

What Is Difficult About This One
Every casting has one or two features that decide whether the batch repeats. On this part they are these.
Own pattern, own core box
Short and long boss are tooled separately. Trying to serve both off one pattern with a loose piece is where mixed batches come from.
Foot pitch changed with the boss
The mounting centres moved when the boss shortened. It will not drop onto the long-boss base plate — check before ordering.
Taller barrel, same chamber
Extra height is above the chamber. The front face and bolt circle are unchanged, so covers still interchange across the family.
Alloy Options
The same geometry is a different part in three different plants. Chloride content, abrasion and temperature drive the choice — not the name of the fluid.
| Alloy | Grade | When it is the right choice |
|---|---|---|
| Grey iron | HT200 / HT250 | Default for water duty. Damps vibration, machines easily, lowest cost. |
| Ductile iron | QT450 / QT500 | When the duty is cyclic or the part takes shock. Tougher than grey. |
| WCB carbon steel | ASTM A216 WCB | Higher strength, weldable. For pressure-bearing bodies. |
| CF8M stainless | ASTM A743 CF8M | Chloride and corrosion duty — the cast equivalent of 316. |
What to Send Us
These are the ones specific to this part. A drawing, a 3D file or the worn original covers all of them at once.
| Item | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Boss length from the body face | The dimension that separates this from the long-boss casting |
| Foot bolt pitch | It differs from the long-boss version |
| Overall height limit | This is the tallest body in the family at 235 mm |
